What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is an oldest Indian system of healthcare that uses natural herbs for maintaining a healthy body. Ayurveda describes three dosha of the body as the energies or the forces of the body. Any disturbances in any of these doshas results in a health problem. These three doshas are Vata, Pitta and Kapha dosha. Ayurveda not only concentrate on the natural herbs but also gives equal importance to a healthy diet, healthy lifestyle and yoga therapy or exercise.

What are Piles?

Piles are the haemorrhoids which become inflamed. Haemorrhoids in turn are the masses or clumps of the tissue that are present in the anal canal. These haemorrhoids consist of blood vessels and support tissue, muscle as well as elastic fibers.

In Ayurveda, piles are known as "Arsha".

Types of Haemorrhoids

Generally, piles are of two types:

1. Internal Haemorrhoids

Internal haemorrhoids are the type of haemorrhoids which occur inside the rectum. As these haemorrhoids occur inside the rectum and hence, we can't see them or feel them. Sometimes, they even hurt and become enlarge or protrude outside the anal sphincter. These enlarged haemorrhoids become irritated by rubbing or from sitting or by clothing even.

2. External Haemorrhoids

Another type of haemorrhoids are the External haemorrhoids. These external haemorrhoids are the small lumps that are present on the outside edge of the anus and hence, the name external. These are also known as perianal hematoma. These external haemorrhoids can be very painful, if a blood clot is formed inside it. It may sometimes become so itchy and these haemorrhoids in this type condition are known as thrombosed external haemorrhoids.

Healthy Diet for Patients Suffering from Piles

In general, healthy diet is one of an easy way to take care of the body. If we are taking medicines for any disease and at the same time, we are taking foods that are actually causing that disease, then it will not be possible for us to recover well from that disease. We should avoid such foods that are responsible for that particular disease. On the other hand, healthy lifestyle is also an important requirement in order to maintain a healthy body.

If we are talking about piles, then people who prefer high fibre diet are comparatively at lower risk of piles than those who take processed foods rich diet. Low fibre diet may leads to constipation which in turn causes abdominal pressure. This abdominal pressure is sometimes responsible piles and hence, we should avoid low fibre diet. Diet that can prevent constipation also helps to manage piles to a great extent. High fibre diet is a good option for the patients of constipation. Include vegetables, fruits, nuts, whole grains and processed foods as little as possible in your diet. Drink at least 8 glasses of water daily. Drink more glasses of water, in case you are living in a hot climate. Avoid foods that contain excess salt in them as excess salt results in swelling of all the veins.

Exercise for Patients Suffering from Piles

Generally speaking, regular exercise is a good way to stay healthy and disease free. Exercise is a great way to maintain a healthy weight. It helps to enhance the muscle tone. Exercise decreases the chances of constipation and hence decreases the risk of piles.
